Shepherding an RLCC Church Community & Leading the Senior Leadership Team
🌱 Purpose & Vision
At this highest level of the LEAD System, you are entrusted with shepherding an entire church community. As a Congregational Pastor, you lead one of RLCC’s Centers, guiding not just ministries—but people, systems, leaders, and vision. Your leadership shapes the present and future health of the church.
This level calls for deep spiritual maturity, prophetic preaching, relational wisdom, and organizational clarity. You don’t just serve the church—you carry it. You work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the RLCC Executive Team to lead your congregation into maturity and mission.
✅ Pre-Qualifications
  • Completed Level 6 – Associate Pastor
  • Demonstrated faithfulness in multi-level leadership and church systems oversight
  • Endorsed by the RLCC Executive Team
  • Appointed to lead a specific RLCC Center or Congregation
  • Able to serve 12–14 hours per week, including public ministry and system leadership
  • Regularly using Planning Center Online and email for pastoral coordination
🔄 Ministry Scope
As a Congregational Pastor, your role includes:
  • Preaching regularly and setting the spiritual tone of the congregation
  • Leading the SLT, composed of Junior Pastor 2s, Assistant Pastors, and Associate Pastors
  • Overseeing all ministry systems: REACH, CORE, and LEAD
  • Ensuring alignment between teams, people, and processes
  • Multiplying disciples and leaders for long-term health and expansion
  • Representing your congregation in RLCC-wide initiatives and direction
🧭 TAG Mentoring Rhythm
Congregational Pastors attend weekly TAG meetings with other SLT members or fellow Congregational Pastors. These TAGs offer:
  • High-level coaching and feedback
  • Prayerful reflection on strategy, Scripture, and spiritual burdens
  • Processing of major challenges or transitions
  • Collaboration on church-wide concerns and direction
🧱 Training Projects (Complete 10 within 12 months)
Choose 3–4 projects in each area. Projects should reflect real decisions, live responsibilities, and forward-thinking leadership.
🙏 Spiritual Formation Projects
  1. Congregational Prayer Journal – Regular intercession for the people, ministries, and vision of your church
  2. Pastoral Rule of Life – Develop a sustainable personal rhythm for spiritual vitality and rest
  3. Mentoring Through Soul Care (2 stages) – Help senior leaders stay spiritually grounded
  4. Spiritual Discernment in Direction – Reflect on prayer and listening in shaping church-wide decisions
🗣️ Communication Projects
  1. Preaching Series Plan & Execution (3 stages) – Shape spiritual formation through a planned sermon series
  2. Annual Vision Talk (3 stages) – Cast long-term vision during a special Sunday or strategic gathering
  3. SLT Devotional or Teaching – Teach the Senior Leadership Team with theological depth and pastoral heart
  4. Conflict Communication Strategy – Design a loving, clear approach to navigating church-wide tension
🧑‍💼 Leadership Projects
  1. Strategic Church Plan (3 stages) – Develop a 12-month vision plan covering worship, discipleship, outreach, and community
  2. SLT Mentoring Structure – Build a system for regularly mentoring APs and Associate Pastors
  3. Crisis Leadership Reflection – Reflect on leading through a major church challenge
  4. Church Health Dashboard – Create indicators to monitor your congregation’s spiritual and missional health
  5. Center Multiplication Proposal – Propose a plan for Center growth, expansion, or planting
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Ongoing Responsibilities
S.H.E.P.H.E.R.D. – The Ministry Heart of a Congregational Pastor
  • Speak the Vision – Preach and teach with theological depth and prophetic direction
  • Host the Community – Oversee Sunday worship, spiritual culture, and member care
  • Equip Senior Leaders – Mentor and support your SLT consistently
  • Plan and Align – Coordinate all systems so the whole church works in harmony
  • Handle Crises – Lead with steadiness, compassion, and truth in high-pressure moments
  • Empower Multiplication – Cast vision for outreach, leadership pipelines, and new churches
  • Report & Collaborate – Provide updates to the Executive Team and participate in RLCC-wide strategy
  • Disciple Strategically – Focus on reproducing high-capacity leaders who may one day plant or lead churches
🤝 Accountability & Support
  • Weekly TAG with fellow Congregational Pastors and/or Executive Team members
  • Ongoing coaching and evaluation by the RLCC Executive Team
  • Presence at Saturday Pastoral Staff Meetings and Sunday Worship Gatherings
  • Regular use of Planning Center and email for managing teams, communication, and goals
  • Full participation in RLCC-wide strategic planning, training, and coordination
🏁 Completion and Ongoing Expectations
A Congregational Pastor continues in this role and is reaffirmed when they consistently:
  1. Practice Personal Soul Care – Lead from overflow, not depletion
  2. Pursue Life-Giving Relationships – Cultivate trust and accountability within the SLT
  3. Preach the Word in Season and Out of Season – Teach with power, truth, and shepherd’s heart
  4. Produce Disciples and Disciple-Makers – Raise up senior leaders and multiply spiritual maturity
  5. Provide Spiritual & Organizational Leadership – Steward the health and growth of the entire congregation
