Overseeing Systems & Mentoring Ministry Directors
๐ฑ Purpose & Vision
At this level, you are stepping fully into senior leadership within RLCC. As an Associate Pastor, your role is to oversee ministry systems (REACH, CORE, LEAD, etc.), mentor Assistant Pastors, and ensure alignment and integration across departments.
You are now helping to build and refine the structures that carry our vision forwardโtranslating mission into systems, and systems into impact. You think organizationally, lead relationally, and serve pastorally.
This is a key step in preparing to become a Congregational Pastor, and your focus is to lead through leaders of leaders.

Pre-Qualifications
- Completed Level 5 โ Assistant Pastor
- Demonstrated excellence in departmental leadership and team mentorship
- Endorsed by the Congregational Pastor or Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
- Actively leading in cross-departmental ministry oversight
- Serving 10โ12 hours per week, including pastoral meetings and oversight
- Consistently using email and Planning Center for system and leader management
๐ Ministry Scope
As an Associate Pastor, you are responsible for:
- Overseeing REACH, CORE, or LEAD as entire ministry systems
- Mentoring Assistant Pastors and Junior Pastor 2s
- Ensuring consistency and strategic alignment across departments
- Resolving high-level leadership, structural, or directional challenges
- Supporting the Congregational Pastor in long-term strategy and staff health
๐งญ TAG Mentoring Rhythm
Associate Pastors join weekly TAG sessions with other senior leaders and the Congregational Pastor. These sessions offer:
- High-level vision casting and issue processing
- Feedback on leadership, strategy, and personal soul care
- Collaboration with peers across ministry systems
- Prayer and accountability for long-term fruitfulness
๐งฑ Training Projects (Complete 10 within 12 months)
Choose 3โ4 projects per skill area. These projects should reflect real-time leadership experiences and strategic engagement.
๐ Spiritual Formation Projects (Choose 3โ4)
- Sustaining Spiritual Leadership โ Build and commit to a long-term rhythm of soul care.
- Guided Team Reflection โ Lead a reflection session for a department on spiritual health.
- Mentoring Assistant Pastors (2 stages) โ Guide APs in spiritual leadership and identity in Christ.
- Vision Prayer Walk โ Pray through ministry spaces and discern Godโs direction.

- System Vision Presentation (3 stages) โ Cast vision for your ministry system to a large audience.
- Collaborative Communication Strategy โ Coordinate messaging across multiple departments.
- Feedback Conversations Practice โ Learn to give challenging but grace-filled leadership feedback.
- Senior Leadership Devotional โ Teach a devotional with theological depth and pastoral application.

- System Audit & Integration Plan (3 stages) โ Evaluate your systemโs alignment and growth areas.
- Mentorship Strategy Map โ Design how Lay Leaders are mentored up through Junior Pastors 2.
- Change Management Report โ Reflect on a transition you ledโwhat worked and what didnโt.
- Multi-Team Leadership Reflection โ Assess how you support and mobilize leaders across teams.
- Succession Planning Document โ Identify and prepare a leader who could eventually take your place.

S.E.R.V.E. โ How Associate Pastors Lead at the System Level
- Support Department Heads โ Mentor Assistant Pastors to lead with clarity and conviction
- Establish Systems โ Ensure ministry practices are consistent and integrated
- Resolve Structural Gaps โ Identify and address breakdowns in leadership flow or team clarity
- Validate Strategic Plans โ Review and refine departmental plans for church-wide alignment
- Equip Mentors of Mentors โ Help APs grow in mentoring their Junior Pastors and Lay Leaders
๐ค Accountability & Support
- Weekly TAG with Congregational Pastor and fellow Associate Pastors
- Attend all Saturday Pastoral Staff Meetings
- Be present and available during Sunday Worship Services
- Regularly use Planning Center Online and email for oversight and collaboration
- Receive coaching and evaluation from the Congregational Pastor or SLT

- Provide Strategic & Spiritual Oversight โ Lead ministry systems with vision, alignment, and heart
