๐ŸŒฑ Purpose & Vision
At this level, you step into ministry-wide leadership. The role of an Assistant Pastor involves forming and leading one of RLCCโ€™s key Ministry Departments (REACH, CORE, or LEAD), mentoring Junior Pastors 1, and ensuring the alignment of multiple teams with the overall mission of RLCC.
You are no longer just guiding a communityโ€”you are now helping to shape the systems that carry out our churchโ€™s vision across the body. This level requires strategic clarity, pastoral depth, and the ability to equip, coordinate, and align leaders toward shared outcomes.
This is also a preparatory stage for those being formed for even greater leadership as Associate Pastors or Congregational Pastors.

โœ… Pre-Qualifications
  • Completed Level 4 โ€“ Junior Pastor 2
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and leaders across a Community
  • Endorsed by an Associate Pastor or Congregational Pastor
  • Oversees at least one Department and multiple Junior Pastors 1
  • Able to serve 8โ€“10 hours per week
  • Regular user of Planning Center and email for system coordination

As an Assistant Pastor, you are responsible for:
  • Directing one of the RLCC systems (REACH, CORE, or LEAD)
  • Mentoring and coaching multiple Junior Pastors 1
  • Leading inter-team strategies and projects
  • Partnering with the Associate Pastor to align ministries
  • Developing future leaders for pastoral roles
๐Ÿงญ TAG Mentoring Rhythm
Assistant Pastors join weekly TAG sessions with fellow Assistant Pastors and an Associate Pastor mentor. These sessions are focused on:
  • Strategic and spiritual reflection
  • System-wide problem-solving
  • Planning and evaluation
  • Prayer and pastoral accountability
๐Ÿงฑ Training Projects (Complete 10 within 12 months)
Projects are drawn from three key skill areas. Choose 3โ€“4 per category. Some projects include multi-stage versions for planning, coaching, and implementation.

  1. Soul Care for Shepherds โ€“ Create and follow a sustainable rhythm of rest, Word, and retreat.
  2. Vision Alignment Prayer Journal โ€“ Pray through the needs and alignment of your department.
  3. Pastoral Mentoring Reflection (2 stages) โ€“ Reflect on your impact in mentoring Junior Pastors.
  4. Team Sabbath Practice โ€“ Lead your department into a rhythm of rest and spiritual renewal.

  1. Strategic Vision Presentation (3 stages) โ€“ Cast compelling departmental vision to a large group.
  2. Equipping Series Talk (2 stages) โ€“ Teach a multi-session training for your department.
  3. Leading in Crisis โ€“ Reflect on and model calm, truth-based leadership during challenges.
  4. Multi-Team Communication Strategy โ€“ Design an internal communication flow across teams.
  5. Mentoring Through Preaching โ€“ Deliver a message that challenges and empowers leaders.

  1. Department Strategic Plan (3 stages) โ€“ Create a 6-month ministry plan with team input and alignment.
  2. Mentorship Pipeline Map โ€“ Outline how you are developing Junior Pastors for future levels.
  3. Coaching Junior Pastors (2 stages) โ€“ Observe, coach, and follow up with team leaders.
  4. System Integration Assessment โ€“ Evaluate how your department supports overall church systems.
  5. Cross-Team Project Coordination โ€“ Lead a project that involves multiple departments working together.

  • Resource the Team โ€“ Provide tools, encouragement, and necessary structure
  • Teach and Model โ€“ Preach and demonstrate Christlike leadership and vision

  • Weekly TAG with other Assistant Pastors and an Associate Pastor
  • Active participation in Saturday Pastoral Staff Meetings
  • Lead or support ministry during Sunday Worship Gatherings
  • Consistent use of Planning Center and email to track people, teams, and events
  • Receive regular coaching and evaluation from Associate or Congregational Pastors
