The Junior Pastor 1 role marks a significant shift from personal leadership to team leadership. It is designed for those who are ready to shepherd Lay Leaders and Interns, form ministry teams, and begin stepping into pastoral-level responsibilities such as preaching, coaching, and discerning calling.
Junior Pastors 1 lead under the guidance of a Junior Pastor 2 and are equipped to multiply healthy teams and deepen the spiritual life of RLCC’s ministries.
This level is not just about managing workβ€”it’s about nurturing people, casting vision, and walking with emerging leaders as they grow.
βœ… Pre-Qualifications
  • Completed Level 2 – Intern
  • Demonstrated fruitfulness in mentoring and spiritual guidance
  • Endorsed by a Junior Pastor 2 or LEAD Mentor
  • Leads or supervises one or more REACH, CORE, or LEAD teams
  • Able to serve approximately 6–8 hours per week
  • Proficient in using Planning Center Online and email communication

Junior Pastors 1 are typically assigned to a specific RLCC Community or department, where they:
  • Form and supervise REACH, CORE, or LEAD teams
  • Mentor and coach Lay Leaders and Interns
  • Partner with a Junior Pastor 2 for oversight and spiritual alignment
  • Serve as the "first-level shepherds" of team culture and discipleship
🧭 TAG Mentoring Rhythm
Junior Pastors 1 participate in weekly TAG meetings with peers and a mentor. These sessions provide space to:
  • Reflect on real ministry challenges
  • Practice spiritual discernment
  • Share project progress and receive feedback
  • Strengthen one another in prayer and purpose
🧱 Training Projects (Complete 10 within 12 months)
Choose 3–4 projects from each category. Some are multi-stage (2–3 steps) to allow for feedback and refinement.

  1. Discerning God’s Voice – Reflect on how you hear and follow God in leadership situations.
  2. Pastoral Prayer Journal – Keep a journal of intercession for your team and ministry.
  3. Burnout Check & Rhythm Reset – Reevaluate your pace and adjust your Rule of Life.
  4. Mentoring for Inner Growth (2 stages) – Mentor someone in spiritual formation and receive feedback.
  5. Spiritual Discernment Exercise (2 stages) – Guide someone in discerning their next step or calling.

  1. Biblical Counseling Devotional – Teach Scripture in a way that brings comfort and conviction.
  2. Preaching from the Epistles (3 stages) – Prepare and deliver a sermon from a New Testament letter.
  3. Panel Teaching Facilitation – Host a group discussion with prepared questions and pastoral input.
  4. Teaching a Spiritual Practice (2 stages) – Introduce and teach a practice like journaling or silence.
  5. Vision Casting Talk (3 stages) – Deliver a short talk to inspire direction, clarity, and engagement.

  4. Team Culture Checkup – Assess your team’s health and make relational adjustments.
  5. Volunteer Development Workshop (2 stages) – Lead a session to train or upskill ministry volunteers.

  • Nurture Team Culture – Build rhythms of prayer, reflection, joy, and Sabbath
  • Teach & Preach – Share God’s Word faithfully when opportunities arise
  • Oversee Teams – Guide the fruitfulness of REACH, CORE, or LEAD teams under your care
  • Reflect & Report – Share updates, insights, and needs during TAG and mentoring sessions
🀝 Accountability & Support
  • Weekly TAG with Junior Pastor 2 or assigned mentor
  • Consistent attendance at Saturday Pastoral Staff Meetings
  • Presence during Sunday worship gatherings (not just attendanceβ€”ministry participation)
  • Ongoing feedback from mentors on preaching, leadership, and mentoring
  • Use of Planning Center and regular communication with leaders via email or chat

A Junior Pastor 1 is ready to move forward when they:
