Start a SHARE Group
Start a SHARE Group – Session Flow for Facilitators
SHARE = Sharing Honestly and Responding Empathically
1. Welcome and Connect (5 minutes)
- Greet participants warmly.
- If people don’t know each other, start with quick introductions (name and one light question, e.g., “What stood out to you from today’s event?”).
- Remind everyone: “This is a safe space. What we share here stays here.”
2. Open in Prayer (2 minutes)
Keep it short and simple:
“Lord, thank You for bringing us together. Help us to share honestly, listen with empathy, and encourage one another in Christ. Amen.”
“Lord, thank You for bringing us together. Help us to share honestly, listen with empathy, and encourage one another in Christ. Amen.”
3. Sharing Time (15–30 minutes)
This is the heart of the SHARE Group. Use the SHARE pattern to guide:
- S – Sharing Honestly
- Invite each participant to share reflections from the event or study.
- Example questions:
- “What spoke to you most from today’s message?”
- “What part challenged or encouraged you personally?”
- H – Heart Listening
- Encourage everyone to give full attention when someone is speaking.
- No interruptions, side conversations, or rushing.
- A – Ask Gently
- Use open-ended questions if someone wants to go deeper.
- Example: “Can you tell us more about what that meant for you?”
- R – Respond with Empathy
- Affirm feelings without trying to fix them.
- Say things like: “That sounds difficult.” / “Thank you for sharing.”
- E – Encourage in Christ
- Point each other to God’s promises.
- End a person’s sharing with a word of hope or a short prayer.
4. Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
- Invite participants to share one “takeaway” from the discussion.
- Summarize what the group shared (briefly highlight common themes).
- Remind them of the next meeting (if part of a series) or affirm that the group ends here if it’s after a one-time event.
5. Closing Prayer (3 minutes)
- Pray for the group as a whole and for the key concerns that came up.
- You may also ask volunteers to pray short prayers of thanksgiving or intercession.
Time Management
- Total session length: 30–45 minutes.
- Be mindful of the time so the group ends well.
Facilitator Reminders
- Your role is to guide, not dominate.
- Allow silence—don’t rush people.
- Encourage honesty, but never force anyone to share.
- Protect the group’s safety: no gossip, no judgment.
- End on a hopeful, Christ-centered note.
